Teacher Education Support

The Educator Support Center* and Jemez Mountain Transition to Teaching* in Farmington, New Mexico are seeking individuals to teach in “high needs” schools. Funding for teacher education is being made available to individuals seeking professional guidance and financial assistance.

If you are interested in a teaching career you may receive financial support toward tuition, books, and testing fees as well as first-year teacher support through mentoring or content coaching. 

If you are committed to making a difference in a young person’s life, and believe that a career in education is right for you, fill out and submit the on-line application, and personnel from our staff will be contacting you to discuss the opportunities we have available to make your career plans a reality.

Teacher Preparation Guidebook

The Teacher Preparation Guidebook: Challenges and Opportunities has been developed to provide general guidance for potential teacher candidates for New Mexico's schools. Information in this publication presents procedures and expectations that refer generally to the schools of education and the New Mexico Public Education Department. All information published in this guidebook is the product of careful research and deliberation by the full-time staff at the Educator Support Center in Farmington, NM and is drawn from several college and university programs.

Teaching American History

Farmington Municipal Schools, in collaboration with the Educator Support Center, celebrates the award of its first Teaching American History grant. The award was received in the spring of 2008 to provide professional development opportunities for teachers over a three-year period of time to enhance and improve knowledge of American history. Activities are open to all teachers in San Juan County. A variety of activities will be available including American history institutes, course-work through Adams State College, working field experiences, seminars, Chautauqua presentations and field trips.

Future Educators of America

Information for juniors and seniors in high school interested in the teaching profession is available in this flyer created by ESC. Area high schools interested in starting a Future Educators of America program may contact Sha Lyn Weisheit for more information.

Eligibility for enrollment

T2T - Be enrolled in an alternative licensure program. Must have a Bachelor's Degree outside of education. Paraprofessionals must have an Associate of Arts Degree or equivalent in education, have passed the NMTA basic skills test and be enrolled in a teacher education program.

TQE - Must have passed the NMTA basic skills test, be enrolled in a teacher preparation program and be within one (1) semester of student teaching.

Applications for the TQE program are no longer being accepted.
